Key trends for SS 2020

Nina Victoria Personal Stylist Surrey talks Spring Summer '20 key trends and how you can mix them in to your capsule wardrobe

With Spring just around the corner, I thought it was the perfect time to share the key trends for Spring Summer 2020. Seasonal trends are great fun to add into your capsule wardrobe, but one thing I always say to clients is to really think about whether these trends will really work with their own style, shape and colour palette. Yes, it’s always nice to be ‘on trend’ and a ‘fashionable’ style is so much more than a seasonal trend so just be mindful about what you are buying and think about how these trends can work within your wardrobe.

A leather jacket is a staple item for any capsule wardrobe but why does it always have to be black? As you are probably aware, I am a little obsessed with colour and within my personal styling sessions I am always talking about the power of colour and how bringing a pop of colour into your wardrobe can really brighten up your look. From leather jackets, to trench coats and trousers, the high street has some amazing pieces out there for you to try. Leather is a gorgeous fabric and can be worn over a beautiful dress for an evening out, or worn with trainers for a relaxed casual style. Understanding your best colours through a colour analysis can be fundamental to you and your style so perhaps before you invest in a lovely coloured leather piece why not really think about which colour would best suit your skin tone and compliment your colour palette. It is time to mix things up in your wardrobe and start having fun with key items!!

If you are going to look at investing in anything this Spring, I really would suggest looking at a two piece. Not only is it a killer power outfit but the versatility of it is amazing; you really can create so many different looks. Whether you wear each piece individually – a blazer with jeans and trainers, the trousers with a blouse and heels or as one suit you will love how easily you can dress it up or down. Keep an eye out over on my Instagram this spring as I will definitely be showing you how I style a suit and mix and match with other key items in my wardrobe.

The revival of the 80’s big shoulder has been slowly creeping in through Autumn Winter and I for one am loving the bold puff shoulders & statement sleeves. If like me, you are a pear shape then this style is perfect to balance out your body shape and help create a proportioned silhouette. I appreciate it’s not for everyone especially a strawberry who would be broader on top, however if you love these styles and can balance out the bottom half with a bold pattern or wide leg trouser then go for it. The high street is full of big bold shoulders and statement sleeves; so whether you are a lover or a hater, you are bound to come across them so have a play and see if you can create some fun looks for your spring style this season.

Last summer polka dots went viral following the instagram trend and sell out of that Zara dress; we all know the one! This print sensation is going nowhere this season, if anything it’s back bigger and better so if you are looking to add prints to your wardrobe this summer, polka dots is the way to go. Dresses, jumpsuits, trousers or blouses – spring spots can be worn for so many occasions. Style it up for a chic wedding look or throw on a leather jacket or blazer, trainers or sandals for a casual daytime style.
